How The Process Works

  • Use our commission inquiry form to share what you have in mind, including subject matter, size, and deadline. We begin with a no-obligation inquiry and a discussion of size, style, and overall direction before the work begins.

  • After reviewing your request, we will let you know whether your project is a good fit and provide a quote based on size, complexity, subject matter, and timeline. Clear definition of the artwork scope, medium, dimensions, and price will be provided at this point.

  • Once the project is approved, your commission is placed on our calendar after receipt of a deposit. A partial upfront payment reserves time and covers planning and early studio work. Depending on timeline and complexity, the initial deposit will be 30–50% of total cost.

  • We create your painting in our own style and studio process, and we may share updates at key stages when appropriate.

  • Near completion, we will share images of the work for review.

  • Final payment is due before shipping or local delivery unless otherwise agreed in writing. Shipping and delivery costs are paid by the client. Commissions by residents of North Carolina are subject to sales tax.

Guidelines

  • Commissions are accepted based on availability, subject matter, and fit with the Henry & Joy style. We welcome serious inquiries through our website and are happy to answer questions before any commitment is made. We may decline projects that fall outside our style, timeline, or materials preferences.

  • Pricing is based on size, complexity, materials, and timeline. A deposit is required to secure your place on our schedule. This deposit is generally non-refundable once work has begun.

  • Estimated timelines will be discussed in advance, but completion dates can shift slightly depending on drying time, studio workload, and the natural pace of handmade work. Reasonable revisions are welcome at the review stage, but major changes after approval of concept or late in the process may require an added fee or a revised timeline.

  • If reference images are obtained from clients, we ask them to provide the strongest reference images available. High-quality references support the best outcome and reduce misunderstandings later in the process.

  • Framing is not included unless specifically listed in your quote. Shipping, delivery, or installation costs are quoted separately. Copyright remains with the artist unless separate written rights are granted. Unless requested otherwise, we photograph the finished piece for our portfolio, website, or social media. Clients may request anonymity or delayed sharing.
